Koblenz Christmas Market: Winter Magic between Rhine and Moselle
From November 20, 2026, to January 3, 2027, the historic old town of Koblenz transforms into a festive Christmas village. Seven squares invite visitors to leisurely stroll through festively lit market stalls offering regional specialties, handicrafts, and Christmas gift ideas.
Seven squares, a unique shopping experience
The Koblenz Christmas Market spans Jesuitenplatz, Am Plan, Josef-Görres-Platz, Münzplatz, Willi-Hörter-Platz, Zentralplatz, and the square in front of the Liebfrauenkirche. Each location has its own character, making the tour a varied shopping experience.
On Jesuitenplatz, the largest Advent calendar in the city shines in the roof dormers of the baroque town hall. Am Plan features a large Christmas pyramid with cozy seating cabins, creating a sociable market atmosphere. Josef-Görres-Platz presents a quieter Christmas village with children's programs, a small train, and heated seating huts.
Crafts, gift ideas, and regional diversity
The artisan market offers handcrafted unique pieces for the Christmas season. Visitors can discover Christmas ornaments, Schwibbögen, Christmas pyramids, smoking figures, nutcrackers, knitted goods, glass writing instruments, leather goods, and olive wood products. At Liebfrauenkirche, artisans can be observed crafting selected gift items.
Direct marketers and regional producers also shape the offerings. Stollen, honey, wines from the region, winemaker's mulled wine, cheese, ham, sweets, and liqueurs bring the culinary diversity of the region to the Christmas market stalls. The blend of crafts, seasonal goods, and regional specialties makes the market a popular destination for gift searching.
Mulled wine, roasted almonds, and winter specialties
The scents of freshly roasted almonds, mulled wine, gingerbread, and other winter delicacies waft through the old town. At Münzplatz, apple pancakes, Baumstriezel, vegetarian vegetable pans, fresh potato chips, and Flammlachs are among the culinary offerings. At Willi-Hörter-Platz, the SchaEngelbar invites visitors to linger with white and red winemaker's mulled wines.
Zentralplatz connects the Christmas market and city life. In addition to crêpes and seasonal delights, handmade knitwear and Christmas table decorations can be found there. A nearly 70-year-old wooden Ferris wheel provides a nostalgic eye-catcher among the festively decorated stalls.
Christmas atmosphere for families
Families will find several special attractions at the Christmas market. Children can ride on carousels, explore the small train at Josef-Görres-Platz, and, with a bit of luck, meet St. Nicholas at Liebfrauenkirche. On weekends, Christmas stories and songs in Koblenz dialect can also be heard there.
An additional highlight of the winter trip to Koblenz is the Christmas Garden at Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. The light and sound installation can be combined with a stroll through the old town and a visit to the Christmas market.
Opening hours and visit planning
The market stalls open from Monday to Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Gastronomic offerings may remain open longer. The market takes place outdoors; warm clothing and sturdy footwear are therefore essential for an appropriate visit.
Admission to the Christmas market is free. The visit can be well combined with a stroll through the old town, regional gastronomy, and a detour to the Deutsches Eck.
The Koblenz Christmas Market combines regional diversity, traditional craftsmanship, and Rhineland conviviality. Those who want to experience Advent with special gift ideas, fragrant specialties, and a festive market atmosphere should discover the Christmas magic between Rhine and Moselle live.
