Kristina in Koblenz: Swedish Musical about Departure, Loss, and Hope

A new life begins where the familiar homeland ends: The Theater Koblenz presents on January 5, 2027, the Swedish musical Kristina från Duvemåla in the theater tent at the plateau of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. The German premiere combines great musical music with a moving emigration story.

A Dramatic Journey Across the Atlantic

At the center is Kristina, a young woman from the Swedish village of Duvemåla. Famines, family disasters, religious restrictions, and lack of future prospects drive her together with her husband Karl Oskar and their children to emigrate to America. The journey into the unknown world becomes a test for love, family, and personal beliefs.

Musical History First Time in German

The work is based on Vilhelm Moberg's four-volume emigration epic. The music is by Benny Andersson, the lyrics by Björn Ulvaeus. After the world premiere in 1995 in Malmö and concert versions in New York and London, the musical will experience its first staged performance in German in Koblenz. For Theater Koblenz, this production also represents a special artistic step: The venue acquired the exclusive rights for the entire German-speaking area.

Great Voices, Orchestra, and Impressive Stage

The staging by Markus Dietze combines acting, choreography, and musical singing into an intense event experience. On stage will be Elena Franke as Kristina, Markus Schneider as Karl Oskar, and Denis Riffel as Robert. The State Orchestra Rheinische Philharmonie, along with the opera choir and extra choir of Theater Koblenz, under the musical direction of Karsten Huschke, create the grand sound of this story.

Event Atmosphere in the Theater Tent

The theater tent on the fortress plateau creates an unusual ambiance overlooking Koblenz and the Rhine. A shuttle bus will drive to the theater tent for the performance at 6:00 PM; the use of the shuttle and the respective public transport in the VRM is included in the ticket price. The age rating is 12 years.

An Evening for Musical Fans and History Enthusiasts

Kristina is aimed at visitors who appreciate emotional musical theater evenings, historical themes, and great family stories. The event planning of Theater Koblenz combines artistic aspirations with a special venue and a clear targeting for musical audiences, theater lovers, and culturally interested guests.
